Selected Player Backgrounds

The following are selected backgrounds submitted by players that display proper use of theme as well as creativity within the confines of ICness::

Thaleia

Thaleia was born on Leo, where her father, Iapetos, owned a small casino. The whole family pitched in to help run the business. Her mother was an accountant there, and Thaleia and her two brothers often worked as dealers at the tables, or ran errands. It was an unusual atmosphere to grow up in, but the only one Thaleia knew. Atlas, her older brother, sturdy and dependable, but rather unimaginative, became her father's right-hand man after he completed school. He seemed to almost ignore the darker side to the business, corruption and greed, and the increasing involvement of organized crime. On the other hand, Prometheus, her younger brother, mischievous and sharp, was well acquainted with this side, and seemed to almost thrive off of it. Without their father's intervention, he probably would not have survived long, but he got craftier as he went, rigging schemes and deals to profit by. Thaleia was closer to Prometheus than Atlas. Despite her older brother's stability, Prometheus seemed to be better able to see the spark of imagination that held Thaleia's heart. When she was younger, she dreamed of being a warrior in the fleet, seeing them only as the brave defenders of humanity. Her father, however, was well aware of the statistics and dangers of such a life, and insisted that she continue working at the casino. Periodically, they had fights, but he always produced some reason as to why she was needed.

During the destruction of the colonies, Thaleia was with her mother and brother Atlas. Her mother was killing by falling debris as the Raiders strafed the planet below. Atlas and Thaleia ran to safety, hiding until the attack was over. Afterwards, they were unable to find their father and Prometheus in the chaos. They managed to board one of the ships fleeing with the fleet. Thaleia always believed that her father had died - he had a weak heart, it was quite likely. But she was never able to accept that Prometheus might have. She insisted to Atlas (who did not believe her) that he would manage to somehow stay alive. Atlas always argued that they would have found him, but Thaleia believed that Prometheus had probably gotten himself in trouble, and had a reason for not stepping forward.

Thaleia suffered for a while with the other refugees. After the chaos of fleeing the colonies was slightly more straightened out, Thaleia managed to get a job as a pyramid dealer aboard the Rising Star. She was successful enough, but dissatisfied. When the recruiting ads for the military began showing, Thaleia made up her mind. She would become the warrior she always dreamed of being. Atlas and she fought a great deal about this, but in the end she ignored him and signed up anyway.Warrior training did a little to dispel some of her illusions, but Thaleia retained the dream of thebrave warrior defending the people.
