Log: A warrior gets his bearings RP log from 01/02/1998 Players - Carson, Corporal, Gold Spar Squadron (logging) Cooper, Corporal, Gold Spar Squadron, Carson's friend and wing lead. Juno, 10 yahren old orphan boy (@emits by Carson) Jeremy, 8 yahren old orphan boy (@emits by Carson)
Carson, Katana, and Cooper had visited Kienu in jail on the Nemesis the night before, to find him badly beaten. The stress of finding so many enemies within the fleet like the Mafia, and now renegade Security members, is beginning to wear his will to fight down. He knows that he needs a reminder of what made him become a warrior again, so he goes to watch the children play on the Ariadne, the Orphan ship. ========================================================= Simulator Room -- Lounge <Galactica> This small waiting area is known as the Hot Seat. Here pilots lounge on couches or pace back and forth awaiting their turn at the simulators. Two short flights of stairs lead up to the raised platform that contains the flight simulators. A tactical board mounted into one of the walls, allows the Patrol Leader to mock up formations and confer with, or instruct, his patrol members on how they should react to the given scenario. You notice TWO MONITOR SCREENS hanging from the ceiling.
You remove a Tan Colonial flight helmet-#5864. Cooper removes a Tan Colonial flight helmet-#5515. Cooper climbs out of the sim and brushes his sweaty hair out of his eyes. Carson grins "That was pretty fun. I'm almost even with you..." Cooper nods and grins, "Your skills are getting very good." Cooper says, "You're one of the tougher opponents I have faced in here." Carson grins. "Thanks. I've been practicing, buzzing the Cylon homeworld." Cooper nods, "It's showing." Carson smiles "I'm starting to wait until a couple of them show up before starting to shoot at them." Cooper grins, "It's always more fun when the odds are against you." Carson grins. "It is. I think I'm hanging around you too much, friend. You're starting to turn me into a gambler." You say, "I've been doing some thinking about Kienu's party. I think I'm gonna need some help rounding up the entertainment. Can you take care of that part for me? I don't even know where to begin to start looking." Cooper raises a brow and looks at you seriously, "Don't expect me to find the ladies." You say, "As for the drinks, I've been giving it a lot of thought, and I really would rather if Kienu didn't get drunk so soon after being released from the brig. The last thing he needs right now is to be thrown back in there for public drunkenness." Cooper says, "Well, if we rent out a private area in a bar, then it should be ok." You say, "About the ladies, Know anyone who can?" Carson blushes slightly. "I've never even been to a bachelor's party." Cooper runs his hand through his hair and rocks slightly on his feet, "Maybe the LT could help." Carson hmms. "You might be right." Cooper nods to you, "Me either, never really known anyone crazy enough to get sealed." Carson laughs "I think that I might be getting crazy enough but not for a while. I just was never invited to one. I guess people figured I wouldn't be interested. And they probably would have been right, before." Cooper grins and chuckles softly, "I'm just going for the ambrosia." You say, "Let's see. If we find a private bar somewhere, that takes care of him while he's there. That still leaves getting him home from there without any trouble though. Hmm." Cooper shrugs, "not much of a problem, who's really gonna say anything if a bunch of warriors are escorting him home." You say, "Still, I'd really rather he not get drunk at all. I get the feeling from some of the stories he and Gilly have told that it might not stop there, and I'd really like to see him get himself straightened out." Cooper nods, "Well...it's your call. Your the one organizing this thing." You say, "With Aknair leaving, we could use some more officers in the squadron and I know he really wants to get his wings back." Cooper nods, "Gold sure is running out of officers fast." Carson grins. "I imagine there are some who would see that as opportunities for advancement." Cooper o O (Hopefully some promotions will be coming our way...either Carson or Katana.) Cooper nods slightly, "I kinda like where I am, don't think I'd make a good officer." You say, "Katana and I went to see Gilly after we saw Kienu last night." Cooper nods, "How is she doing?" You say, "She's doing fine, all things considered. We told her about how Kienu looked. She wants Katana and me to testify to that if it comes to that." You say, "She's going to wait until he's out of there before doing anything though." Cooper nods slightly, "You'll get the blackshirts after you if you do that." You say, "We're hoping Talemon steps in and takes care of it but if he doesn't, we'll have more than that. Gilly says that it won't be a normal trial." Cooper wields his Dagger-#4559-<Drawn> Cooper pulls a dagger out from behind his back, a wild glint in his eyes, "It will be a special trial for them?" Carson frowns slightly. "No, If Talemon doesn't take charge, she said it would be something she called an Open Council." Cooper hmmmphs and shakes his head as he returns his dagger, "Like the law works properly anyway." Cooper unwields his Dagger-#4559 You say, "Apparently, the Council Members all vote openly on the evidence. She says that if they get political, it could be putting my career in jeapordy." Cooper nods, "You willing to do that?" You say, "I told her that if the Council would put politics over the truth then we had a more serious enemy than the Cylons and that I probably wouldn't want to be a warrior any more. Either way, I couldn't deny what I saw." You say, "If it comes to that, I will. We're all hoping it doesn't and that Talemon gets control of the bad elements of his troops." Cooper scratches his chin and nods slightly, "Never really like politics or the council myself, I'd rather take my chances on a roll of the dice then them." Carson nods in agreement. "Still, Gilly says that Adama's an exceptionally fair man and we know that he holds some sway with them. We'll see what happens." Cooper hmmms and nods, "I guess that's one good thing. Least we know Adama can't be bought." Carson smiles slightly. "In any event, I can only control myself, and can hardly even influence them so I'm going to focus more on things I do stuff about, and not worry about stuff I can't." Cooper nods in agreement. Carson looks off into nothing for a moment as he thinks about the party again. "Eah, he's an adult and capable of making decisions for himself. If he wants to get drunk, I guess it's up to him. Still, I'm gonna feel bad if I helped. What to do..." Cooper grins slightly, "You can't take care of everyone." Carson chuckles somewhat. "I don't suppose I could beg off as a result of my Corporal's salary. He's invited enough officers who would more than make up for it themselves." Cooper grins, "You could try, stiff the officers with the tab." Carson frowns somewhat. "Heh. I guess that wouldn't be a great idea after all, huh?" Cooper grins, "Not unless you want all the worst patrol routes." Carson laughs. "Ok, scratch that idea. I guess I'm going to have to handle it on my own." Carson smiles as he thinks of another place and time. "I think I need a reminder of why I became a warrior. I'm going to watch the kids play." Carson grins "If you think of any ideas for the party, let me know..." Cooper nods, "I will." Carson waves as he heads off for the Ariadne. "See you around, Coop." <<<Carson goes from there to the Ariadne, the Orphan ship... >>> Lounge <Ariadne> Children run about laughing and playing, oblivious to their rather bleak surroundings. A rambunctious game of tag ensues over in the far corner, but quickly spreads out across the whole room. Several of the smaller children play in a small area partially partitioned off from those a bit older. On a nearby table, pictures recently painted dry. One rather talented artist has painted a shining green planet, a wreath of flames all around it... Carson walks in quietly and takes up a seat along the wall, smiling relaxedly as he watches the kids playing. Carson looks sadly at the picture of the burning planet and fights back a tear. o O ("Never again. We won't be caught so off-guard ever again, whoever you are that painted that.") He shakes his head and is brought back to the present by a shriek of laughter as a couple of them run by him in their game of tag. Carson smiles at the two kids as they run by. Carson sits there for the next several centons watching the kids play, remembering similar times from his own childhood. A couple of kids shriek with laughter again as they run past Carson, so absorbed in their game of tag that they don't even notice that he's there. Carson smiles warmly as the sight of the children remind him of his childhood on Aeriana. Carson smiles and says quietly to himself, "Those were good times." Carson watches and smiles as he spots a couple of the younger kids pretending to be grownups. As he listens, he realizes that they are pretending to be Colonial Warriors fighting off a Cylon attack on the Galactica and it reminds him further of the grave responsibility he took on when he enlisted. o O ("Hmm. I hadn't thought of that aspect of things either. I'm one of their main role models now. I need to be sure that I'm a good one.") Juno says "Pshh! Pshh! Pshh! Die you tin can! I got him!" Jeremy says "No you didn't, I did! I got him!" Carson suddenly sneezes. Jeremy's head snaps around at the sound of the sneeze and stares at Carson with his mouth wide open. Juno sees Jeremy staring and turns to see what he's staring at. Recognizing the uniform, he runs up to Carson and blurts out "Are you a real Warrior???" Jeremy regains his senses and runs up to Carson as well. Not to be outdone, and before Carson can answer Juno, he reaches for Carson's pistol. "Is that a real laser pistol?" Juno says "I'm Juno. I'm ten yahren old." Jeremy says "Wow!" Juno nudges Jeremy, who is still holding Carson's hand. Jeremy lets go of Carson's hand and says, "Oh. Sorry. My name is Jeremy. I'm eight. Have you killed any Cylons?" Carson shakes his head. "Not real ones, but I've been shot at by them. Sometimes, we don't always hit what we shoot at. Some other pilots killed the ones I missed though." Carson smiles warmly and squats down to visit with the two boys some more. "The good thing is that, as you can see, they don't always hit what they shoot at either." Juno asks, "Have you seen my mommy?" Carson looks sadly to Juno and answers softly, "No, Juno, I haven't seen your mommy. I've been looking for my mommy too." Jeremy tugs on Carson's sleeve. "Are Vipers fast?" Carson feels the tug on his sleeve and looks over at Jeremy. "Yes, Jeremy. They're the fastest thing in space. No Cylon Raider can keep up with them." Jeremy turns to Juno and sticks his tongue out at him. "See, I told you they were fast!" The boys begin to scuffle. "No you didn't!" "Yes I did!" "No you didn't!" Carson barks out in his best command voice. "Attention!" Juno snaps to attention! Jeremy does his best to snap to attention but hasn't had the practice that Juno has, so it comes off a little sloppy. Carson raises himself up to his fullest and proudest height and looks the boys over. "You two need to stop fighting with each other and start helping each other like good wingmen do. And make sure you obey your teachers, just like I have to obey Lieutenant Caliban. Understood?" Juno yells out "Yes sir!" Jeremy yells "Yes sir!" Carson smiles and says softly "Now you two go play, and remember. Wingmen help and protect each other. Ok?" Juno says, "Yes sir." and starts to walk back to where he was playing before. Jeremy hesitates a moment, then turns and follows Juno. Carson grins "That's the way, Jeremy. Stick to your wingman. You're a team together." Jeremy and Juno start to play as before but still try to keep an eye on Carson from time to time. Carson smiles as he watches the kids for few centons more, gives them a sharp salute, and walks out the door. Juno sees the salute and tries to return it but Carson's back is already turned. <<< Carson leaves the Ariadne and returns to the barracks on the Galactica. >>> You write an entry in your Journal: I had a good practice session in the simulator today with Cooper. I'm almost even with him in skills. I think he's a little better, but I made him work for it. Kienu wants me to put together a batchelor's party for him like he's never been to before. Me??? I've never even been to a batchelor's party, let alone thrown one. Well, I guess I can see what I can do. I hope Lt. Caliban can help with the entertainment, as well as lining up a suitable group to make sure Kienu makes it home without getting arrested for public drunkenness. All this stuff with the renegade security troops and the Mafia was beginning to wear on me. I needed something to help me get my bearings again as to why I became a warrior. I think I found it. I went to the Ariadne again to watch the kids play. While I was there, I saw two boys, around eight yahren and ten yahren old, playing together. As I watched, it dawned on me that they were pretending to be Warriors fending off a Cylon attack on the Galactica. They hadn't noticed me until I suddenly sneezed. I talked with them for a while and gave them a talk about protecting each other. It made me realize once again that even though there are some pretty bad people in our fleet, we have some pretty good ones too. I'm glad I went. I needed that.
